Conference Announcement
Dear Sietarians:
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our 25th annual conference. The theme is “Intercultural Communication and Humor.” As a tool of communication, humor functions to deliver messages more effectively, establish better relationships, and create a more friendly environment. On the first day, Saturday the 30th, a symposium on humor sponsored by the Conference Committee will be held. Also a speech by Professor Shoji Mitarai, President of the Japan Institute of Negotiation, is scheduled. On the second day, a keynote speech and English Rakugo performance by Rakugo performer KATSURA Kaishi is offered. This presentation is open to the public for everyone to enjoy. Other offerings include 29 presentations in English or Japanese, 6 workshops, and 2 panel discussions.
We hope that this conference will provide you with many opportunities to meet and interact with a diverse range of people. SIETAR Japan is dedicated to promoting and facilitating intercultural education, training, and research through professional interchange, and this conference is our largest annual opportunity for members to meet for this purpose.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the SIETAR Japan President, Eriko Machi for her support and help to make this conference possible. I am also grateful to the Conference
Committee members as well as many SIETAR Japan colleagues for all their wonderful ideas, preparations, and hard work to ensure a stimulating and enjoyable experience for us all.
Kimie Oshima
