PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Talkative "foreigners"? Silent Japanese? How do
you solve problems and handle conflict in working groups where cultural
assumptions about communication differ so greatly? Robert Anderson and
Yukiko Kuroda will present their approach to assertiveness training,
a method that uses E.T. Hall's concept of low context and high context
communication as a theoretical base. They will discuss the theory and
show examples of learning activities designed to create awareness and
to develop assertiveness skills. They have used this approach with Japanese
and non-Japanese participants in both English and Japanese.
PRESENTER:
Robert Anderson is the president of McDonald Anderson, a
communication consulting and training firm based in New York City. Yukiko
Kuroda is president of P.Y. International, a training and consulting
firm in leadership and organizational development based in Tokyo. As
partners, they have conducted many workshops on assertiveness and other
communication topics in foreign and Japanese firms over the past five
years.
How to get there?:
i-Land Tower can be accessed directly from Nishi-Shinjuku
Station on the Marunouchi Line by following the underground path. From
JR Shinjuku Station it is approximately a 10 minute walk. Once you get
to the building, select an elevator that stops on the 4th floor. After
you get off on the 4th floor, walk to the right until you get to the
last door on your left.
