PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
How can the issues that arise from psychological and social
conflicts in intercultural contacts be peacefully resolved? Peace Studies
Scholar Dr. Johan Galtung calls peaceful transformation of conflicts as
the "TRANSCEND approach." In this approach, conflicts are not
to be resolved but to be transformed, and dialogue, empathy, non-violence,
and creativity are emphasized. Based on my experience of counseling international
students, Dr. Inoue propose the "Macro-Counseling" view. This
view emphasizes seeing an individual in the social and historical context.
What is common in the TRANSCEND approach and Macro-Counseling is the importance
placed on empathy and dialogue. This presentation employs the TRANSCEND
approach from the standpoint of Macro-Counseling and provides participants
opportunities to explore how to transform interpersonal conflicts and
intrapersonal conflicts through exercises.
How to get there?:
i-Land Tower can be accessed directly from Nishi-Shinjuku Station
on the Marunouchi Line by following the underground path. From JR Shinjuku
Station it is approximately a 10-minute walk. Once you get to the building,
select an elevator that stops on the 4th floor. After you get off on the
4th floor, walk to the right until you get to the last door on your left.
