WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
The focus of this presentation will be on the role of the leader in addressing and managing conflict in a multicultural setting. Many of these conflicts will have their roots in intercultural differences and misunderstandings and some of them can either be avoided or at least managed more constructively. Leaders have additional responsibilities in dealing with conflict because they set an example for how others are expected to behave and react because their actions are taken as an implicit model for others. Dr. Fisher-Yoshida will refer to information on managing cultural paradoxes as outlined in her recent book, Transnational Leadership Development: Preparing the Next Generation for the Borderless Business World. One premise addressed in the book is that we need to be more conscious of the intercultural demands and competency expectations placed on leaders in today's world as they lead multicultural teams in a variety of contexts. This needs to be reflected in how we prepare and support them for these roles and responsibilities.
There will be a combination of presentation, application and discussion.
